Jim Kite was elected to the City Council in April 2013 and reelected in November 2017. He served as Council president in 2018 and 2019 and was reelected as Council president in 2022 for the 2023 term.
Kite has been a resident of Overland Park for 21 years. He and his wife Wendy have raised their three children here. All three have graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School. The Kites are members of the Colonial Presbyterian Church.
Kite has been an employee of Sprint Corp. for 32 years, working in Finance, Network, Project Management, and Public Affairs. He holds a BBA from the University of Texas at Austin, and an MBA from the University of Texas at Tyler. Wendy has been a teacher in Shawnee Mission Schools for 18 years.
Council Member Kite has been involved with his children’s schools through PTA membership, serving as SMS Father’s Connection officer, Football booster club membership, Orchestra booster club officer, and as President of the West Point Parents’ Club of Greater Kansas City. He also serves as a ministry volunteer at the Johnson County Corrections Residential Center.
