Biography

Council Member Chris Newlin was elected to the City Council for the second time in November 2023. He previously served on the Council from 2017-2021, serving on all committees and as Chairman of the Mental Health Taskforce. Newlin’s leadership led to the creation of the Overland Park Crisis Action Team (OPCAT) within the Overland Park Police Department.

Newlin and his wife, Adrienne, have lived in Overland Park for more than 10 years and have two sons, Jack and Max. Jack attends the University of Kansas, double-majoring in Film & Media Studies and Journalism Media Arts with a minor in History. Max attends Blue Valley Southwest and is the Front Ensemble section leader for the Emerald Regiment Marching Band.

Newlin graduated from Baker University in 1999 where he played baseball and became a member of the Kansas Alpha Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon. In his professional life, he works for Netrality Data Centers as the Director of Strategic Accounts and Business Development.

As a Johnson County resident since 2006, Newlin has been actively serving his community. For eight years, he volunteered for his fraternity’s alumni board, holding multiple positions including finance and leading as President. Newlin also served as the President of his homeowner association in Coffee Creek Crossing and coached both baseball and soccer in Blue Valley before Max entered high school. Since retiring from coaching he picked up gardening in his backyard as well as in a community garden at Verhaeghe Park where he grows fresh vegetables to donate to local food banks.

Newlin is passionate about helping the community around him and aims to continue his positive impact in city leadership, striving to enhance Overland Park for future generations.
