Biography

Inas Younis was elected to the city council in November of 2023. She is the mother of three adult children, one daughter and two sons. Her husband is a pediatric physician at Children’s Mercy Hospital.

Younis’ lifelong record of volunteerism spread into civic engagement in Overland Park. Along with a demonstrated commitment to public service, appreciation of different points of view developed through her many years of interfaith work. She is an independent journalist and has co-authored several children’s books.

As the mother of two children with developmental disabilities, Younis is a dedicated advocate for better treatment of people with disabilities and for improved pay for staff who care for them.

Younis served as the chair of the Friends of Overland Park Arts and is a board member with SevenDays. She also sat on the Overland Park CDBG Advisory Committee and the Housing Choices Advisory Board for Framework OP. Younis previously served on the board of the Kansas City Public Theatre, the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom, and was a thought partner for the Kansas Leadership Center, helping to inform reporting on immigration and demographic change in the heartland.

Younis is a graduate of Leadership Overland Park.
