Biography

Gregg Riess was elected to the City Council in November 2023.

Riess currently serves as Vice Chair of Public Safety and on the council’s Finance, Administration, and Economic Development Committee. Additionally, Riess is a member of the following associated boards: the Overland Park Development Corporation, the Land Bank Board of Trustees, and the Downtown Overland Park Partnership.

Throughout his career, Riess has actively participated in various leadership roles within the community. He has served as the Chair of the Overland Park Civil Service Commission, the Board Chair of the KC Crime Commission TIPS Hotline, the Board Vice President of the Heart of America Council Boy Scouts, the President of the Homeowners Association of Bentwood Park, and the Committee Chair of Scout Troop 122 in Overland Park.

Riess is a graduate of Leadership Overland Park and the Centurions Leadership Program of the Greater KC Chamber. He has also completed the Citizens Academies with the Overland Park Police Department, the Olathe Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Additionally, he has devoted his time as a youth ministry leader, working with students ranging from kindergarten through high school, and has coached baseball and soccer.

Riess holds the position of Global Client Leader at Ernst & Young LLP, a global consulting firm. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from DeVry University and his Master of Science in Management from Baker University. His career includes consulting and sales leadership roles at IBM Corporation and Arthur Andersen LLP.

Riess and his wife, Staci, have been happily married for 27 years. Together, they have raised their three children in Overland Park since 2004 and have lived in Johnson County since 1992.
