Traffic Cameras

Overland Park’s traffic engineers use closed circuit cameras to ensure traffic is flowing efficiently in the city.

How Cameras Are Used

Cameras can be used to remotely adjust traffic signals adjacent to congestion and monitor recurring congestion to alleviate backups. Staff monitor driving conditions during peak traffic hours from the traffic operations center.

Traffic engineers use additional technology to keep our city moving, including fiber optic cables linking video feeds at intersections to the traffic operations center, and dynamic messaging signs to provide drivers information about delays or driving conditions, or other emergency alerts.
