Gregg Riess was elected to the City Council in November 2023, bringing a long record of public service, civic leadership, and community involvement.
He currently serves as Chair of the Public Safety Committee and is a member of the Finance, Administration, and Economic Development Committee. Gregg has also represented the City through his service on the Overland Park Development Corporation, the Land Bank Board of Trustees, and the Downtown Overland Park Partnership.
Prior to joining the City Council, Gregg held a variety of leadership roles focused on public safety, governance, and leadership development. These include Chair of the Overland Park Civil Service Commission, Board Chair of the KC Crime Commission TIPS Hotline, Vice President of the Heart of America Council Boy Scouts, President of the Bentwood Park Homeowners Association, and Committee Chair for Boy Scout Troop 122.
Gregg is a graduate of Leadership Overland Park and the Centurions Leadership Program of the Greater Kansas City Chamber. He has completed Citizens Academies with the Overland Park Police Department, the Olathe Police Department and the FBI. He has also volunteered extensively as a youth ministry leader and as a baseball and soccer coach.
Professionally, Gregg is a Global Client Leader at Ernst & Young LLP, where he works with large organizations on technology and business transformation. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from DeVry University and a Master of Science in Management from Baker University. His career includes leadership roles at IBM and Arthur Andersen.
Gregg and his wife, Staci, have been married for nearly 30 years. They have called Johnson County home since 1992 and have raised their three children in Overland Park since 2004 — a community Gregg is proud to serve.
