Current Design Criteria + Codes

The city follows design criteria, codes and guidelines to ensure new construction is cost effective, meets current safety requirements and is an asset to the community.

The criteria and codes include general notes, checklists and policies for roadways, stormwater, erosion and sediment control and traffic sign criteria, as well as private site improvements.

The 2023 Design Standards are effective for any new construction plans submitted for construction permits after November 1, 2023. If you have questions about the applicability of these standards to your project, check with your contact at the City or with the Engineering Services Division of the Planning and Development Department at 913-895-6223. Note that this update impacts required paving materials for public streets and required street widths only. Phase in period for the paving materials are noted in Table II, page 6 of the standards. Changes to minimum street width requirements are effective November 1, 2023.
