Prescription Drug Collection

The Overland Park Police Department offers drug collection units at two police stations.

These boxes are offered as a service to reduce illicit abuse of over-the-counter and prescription medication.

Anyone can drop off unused drugs anonymously during normal business hours.

Accepted Items

  • Prescriptions
  • Prescription patches
  • Prescription ointments
  • Over-the-counter medications
  • Vitamins
  • Samples
  • Medications for pets

Not Accepted

The following items cannot be accepted:

  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Inhalers
  • Aerosol cans
  • Medications from businesses or clinics
  • Needles or sharps
  • Thermometers

Many medical products, such as hydrogen peroxide, can be flushed down the toilet or poured down a drain. Dispose of non-medical ointments, lotions, and other liquids in your trash. Dispose of Aerosol cans, inhalers, and alcohol-filled thermometers at the Overland Park Recycling Center.
