Safe Streets Plan

In its commitment to reducing traffic crashes, the City of Overland Park is developing the Overland Park Safe Streets Plan. Funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All program, the Safe Streets Plan will identify where crashes happen, prioritize safety improvements and make streets safer for everyone who walks, bikes, rolls, rides or drives in Overland Park.

The Safe Streets Plan will include:

  • Data analysis to identify locations with higher concentrations of crashes and understand contributing factors, such as impaired driving or speeding.
  • Policy recommendations related to school zone operations, crosswalk enhancements and speed management.
  • A list of safety strategies and projects, ranging from quick-build, low-cost improvements to larger capital investments.
  • A pilot speed cushion project on four streets beginning in April 2026.

A draft Safe Streets Plan is anticipated in early 2027. The plan is funded through the Federal Highway Administration’s Safe Streets and Roads for All grant program.
