Public Works Department

Overland Park’s Public Works Department provides safe and timely street, traffic and stormwater services.

The American Public Works Association recognizes the City’s Public Works Department as a nationally-accredited organization that follows industry best practices. Whether filling a pothole, repairing a streetlight, monitoring traffic flow, inspecting a construction project or driving a snow plow, we take our mission of providing beneficial, efficient and timely services seriously.

Divisions

Public Works operates four divisions in several locations across the city.

Administration + Engineering Division

Public Works administration directs and coordinates work areas, leads department objectives and trains staff.

The Engineering Division plans, designs, and manages construction and maintenance for streets, bridges and storm sewer systems.

Maintenance Division

The maintenance division keeps the City infrastructure in working order by making sure that:

  • Traffic signals and signs are fully operational.
  • Streets are in good condition.
  • Stormwater systems are functioning properly.
  • City vehicles and equipment are ready for use at all times.
