Plan a memorable Mother’s Day in Overland Park

Mother’s Day weekend is almost here! Whether you are a mother, about to become a mother or are celebrating the mother in your life, Overland Park is full of opportunities to celebrate and be celebrated.

Pick out a bouquet of fresh flowers for your mom at the Farmers’ Market. Better yet, spend some quality time together and have her join you to browse the aisles of fresh produce, meats, cheeses and specialty products while enjoying coffee and treats on Saturday morning.

Soak in the sunshine and set your eyes on the skies during Kite Fest from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, May 13 at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. Enjoy food trucks, family activities and, of course, fly your kites.

Breathe in the fresh air when you visit one of the City’s more than 80 parks and open spaces. Pack a picnic and take in the beautiful spaces available throughout Overland Park. If you’re looking for even more excitement, challenge your family to a game of tennis, pickleball, volleyball or basketball. Amenities vary at each park. Find your favorite activity at opkansas.org.

Hit the bike trails with the family to make miles of memories. The Indian Creek and Tomahawk Creek bike/hike trail connect the City’s parks, neighborhoods, schools, recreation facilities, and more. Overland Park has more than 120 miles of bike lanes. If you don’t own a bike, Ride KC has a bikeshare program with locations throughout Johnson County, and Bird scooters and bikes are available to rent in Overland Park. You can borrow a traditional bicycle or an e-bike.

Book a tee time for mom at one of Overland Park’s scenic golf courses. After you sink your final putts, treat your mom to lunch at Club 27 Restaurant located at Sykes/Lady Overland Park Golf Club.

Mothers, take time to celebrate yourselves! Book your tickets to one of the Wine Tasting on the Terrace events at the Arboretum hosted by the Arts & Recreation Foundation of Overland Park. Relax and unwind as you enjoy wine and food samples from local vendors while surrounded by the beauty of the gardens. Tickets are still available for July-September Wine Tasting on the Terrace events.
