Planning 101 is a story map that presents interactive opportunities to learn more about how city planning works.

Skills to engage

Residents who engage with the Planning 101 story map will be better prepared to take part in the Comprehensive Plan update when it begins later this year.

The update will consider the plan’s alignment with Forward OP and other community plans such as the Johnson County Housing Study, Mid America Regional Council Climate Action Plan, and parking and infrastructure plans. 

The update will evaluate existing and emerging issues in the community and will align with the Capital Improvements Program and budget process.

More opportunities to learn

Prior to sharing the Planning 101 story map, Overland Park partnered with four experts in the planning field to produce overview a series of discussion on major planning topics, including:

  • The economics of land use
  • The future of transportation and mobility
  • The big impact of small-scale development
  • Community revitalization and shifting suburbs

Those videos are still available on the Comprehensive Plan webpage and expand on topics that will be important during the Comprehensive Plan public engagement process.
