City Council Committees

The City Council has four standing committees that represent the four divisions of city business. Most city business, including the state and national legislative programs, is reviewed by one or more committees before council consideration.

Each councilmember serves on two of the committees, allowing for each ward to have representation on all committees. The mayor is an ex officio member of these committees and appoints the members of council committees each year.

It is possible that a majority of the full Governing Body may be present at Council Committee meetings. However, Governing Body members who attend Council Committee meetings but are not members of those Committees may not vote on items before the Committee.

Community Development Committee

The Community Development Committee handles business related to city planning and development, parks and recreation, social services, environmental services, and more.
