Recruitment Process

Overland Park’s online employment application makes it simple to view and apply for open positions.

Submitting an Application

Applicants can apply for multiple positions with the same online application. Resumes and cover letters should be attached to the online application.

City computers are available at City Hall for those applying for open positions.

Interviews

Interviews are not automatic. If you are selected for an interview, Human Resources department staff will contact you by phone to schedule the interview.

The City has pre-employment requirements which include a drug test, background check, criminal records check, and physical, if applicable. Public Safety positions require additional pre-employment testing.

Anti-Nepotism

It is the policy of the City not to hire immediate family members of other City of Overland Park employees or City boards, committees, or commissions for full-time or part-time employment.

Immediate family members of employees or members of City boards, committees, or commissions may be eligible for temporary employment.

Immediate family members of the Governing Body are not eligible for employment with the City.

Immediate family, for purposes of implementing the City’s anti-nepotism policy, is defined as spouse, children, parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandchildren, in-laws (mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, daughters, sons), first generation aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, or first cousins.
