Recruitment Process

Overland Park’s online application system make it simple to view and apply for open positions.

Submitting an Application

City computers are available at City Hall for those applying for open positions.

Applicants can apply for multiple positions with the same online application.

Resumes and cover letters should be attached to the online application.

Interviews are not automatic. If you are selected to interview, Human Resources department staff will contact you by phone to schedule an interview. This time may vary depending on departmental needs and priorities but is usually within three weeks after the deadline date.

The City requires a pre-employment drug test, criminal background, and records check for all positions. A pre-employment physical is required for most positions.

All hiring decisions are made solely on the basis of merit.

Immediate family members of current city employees or members of City boards or commissions may work in temporary positions only. Immediate family members of the Governing Body are not eligible for employment with the City.

Please wait at least four weeks before calling to check on your status.

Once a position is filled, all applicants are notified.
