Noise Ordinance

To maintain peace and quiet in our neighborhoods, the city has a noise ordinance that applies to specific areas during certain hours.

Alarm Ordinance

Alarm systems connected to emergency services require a permit, and regular false alarms are subject to fines.

Property Maintenance Code

Overland Park’s property maintenance ordinance addresses topics like home maintenance, inoperable vehicles and parking, exterior storage and more.

Soliciting Ordinance

Door-to-door solicitation is allowed in Overland Park between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. Solicitors must identify themselves and their company’s name and must leave if requested by residents.

The City issues No Soliciting signs that you can print and clearly post on your front door. If the sign is posted, it is a violation of the City code for anyone or any organization to solicit the home.

Kansas Statute creates an exception to City code that prohibits the City from regulating “canvassing, polling, soliciting or otherwise approaching private residences for the purpose of distributing campaign literature or campaigning for a candidate for an election office.” This means that candidates for elected office are permitted, by State statute, to solicit.

If solicitors ignore the sign, call Overland Park Police dispatch at 913-895-6300 as soon as possible after it happens. When possible, provide the name, organization, and a description of the solicitor.

Leash Ordinance

Dogs in Overland Park must be on a leash, no longer than ten feet long, at all times when not confined to a cage, residence, or backyard. This law does not apply to cats.

Violations may result in a fine.

Smoking Ordinance

Indoor smoking is not allowed in public places in Overland Park. This includes all areas of employment, restaurants, bars, hotel and motel rooms, meeting facilities and retail stores.

It does not include private residences, outdoor patios of restaurants, tobacco stores or during live theatrical performances.

The sale or gifting of cigarettes, e-cigarettes and tobacco products to anyone under the age of 21 is also a violation of the City’s tobacco ordinance.
