Youth Fire Safety Intervention Program

Fire and other heat sources can be fascinating and useful, but they can also be dangerous. At the Overland Park Fire Department, safety is always our top priority. Don’t let curiosity about fire grow without guidance—misuse can impact your child, your family and your community.

Fire can be fascinating, especially to young children. In fact, about half of all kids experiment with fire at some point. But how can you tell when natural curiosity becomes a cause for concern? We’re here to help you recognize the signs and guide you through the next steps.

About the Program

The Overland Park Fire Department’s team of fire safety educators and specially trained interventionists can help your family understand fire-related behaviors, recognize when curiosity goes too far and learn about the serious risks that come with exploring fire without proper guidance or supervision.

We offer educational sessions for families, schools and community groups to help promote safe fire behavior.
