The Overland Park Fire Department has served the Overland Park area for more than a century. Even before Overland Park’s incorporation in 1960, our department served this community and others around it with progressive philosophies on safety and education.
The Overland Park Fire Department also provides fire response, EMS and investigation, training, and safety enforcement for the city of Merriam and parts of unincorporated Johnson County.

Message from Fire Chief Long
Thank you for your interest in the Overland Park Fire Department. As Fire Chief, I take pride in leading a team of dedicated professionals committed to serving our community with integrity and compassion. Burn Permits
Permits are required for large open burns, but not smaller recreational fires. Learn more about whether your fire requires a burn permit, and apply for an open burn permit online using the ePLACE portal.
Fire Safety + Education
Fire safety starts at home and in the workplace—and a few simple steps can go a long way toward preventing emergencies.
Youth Fire Safety Intervention Program
The Overland Park Fire Department offers the youth fire safety intervention program to help parents address the problem of fire misuse by a child.

9/11 Memorial
Overland Park’s 9/11 Memorial at the Fire Training Center honors those lost on September 11, 2001 by remembering their sacrifices and teaching future generations about the tragic day.
