Low– and moderate-income homeowners who want to repair their homes may benefit from several programs.
The City partners with Johnson County Housing Services to provide Minor Home Repair services. The program provides limited assistance for repairs that, if left unattended, would have a direct impact on the homeowner’s health and safety or accessibility. Repair work focuses on internal and external improvements, including mechanical systems in the home, and devices or modifications, to make the house accessible. Limited code citations may also be addressed. Renters with disabilities may be eligible for accessibility improvements under this program.
Johnson County Housing Services also operates the HOME Program to address major home repairs. This assistance is provided as a forgivable loan.
In November 2023, the City of Overland Park launched a pilot home weatherization program for low-income households. Through a partnership with East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corporation (ECKAN), eligible households can receive energy-efficiency improvements focused on heating and cooling, with energy savings valued at up to $15,000.
