Whether you’re headed out of town or staying home for the holidays, follow these tips to be sure the Grinch doesn’t steal your holiday cheer.
- Make your house look occupied. Smart bulbs or outlets, lights on timers and a car parked in the driveway will make others think someone’s home.
- Consider investing in a smart camera for your front door or inside your home.
- Remove the garage door opener and anything valuable from your car.
- Let a trusted neighbor know your travel plans. If you have a pet or house sitter, let your neighbor know. If they see anything suspicious, have the neighbor call 911.
- Ask a neighbor or relative to place your trash cans out by the curb, and then bring them back to your house on trash day.
- Lock all windows and doors, including storm doors. Consider putting locks on gates.
