Overland Park named Tree City USA by Arbor Day Foundation

The Arbor Day Foundation recognized Overland Park as a 2022 Tree City, honoring the City’s commitment to effective urban forest management ahead of Arbor Day. The City also received a Tree City USA Growth Award for demonstrating environmental improvement and an outstanding level of tree care.

Overland Park has maintained its Tree City USA designation for more than 40 years. Caring for the City’s environment helps our community thrive. Not only do trees shade our streets and sidewalks, they filter pollutants from our air, intercept stormwater runoff reducing erosion, cool the air and store carbon.

“In 2022, the Legacy of Green Committee and City staff accomplished several significant projects, which helped us maintain our Tree City designation,” said City Forester Bailey Patterson. “In 2023, we’re pursuing even more projects, including launching a public education campaign that focuses on planting the right trees in the right place and in the right way.”

Each year, the Arbor Day Foundation recognizes cities across the country that meet standards of sound urban forestry management with Tree City USA designations. Learn more about the programs and services the City provides to sustain our green spaces, waterways and air at opkansas.org
