OPPD partnering with Kia and Hyundai to provide steering wheel locks

The Overland Park Police Department is partnering with Kia and Hyundai to help protect drivers from vehicle theft.

Certain Kia and Hyundai vehicles with steel key ignitions pose an increased risk of theft. Overland Park residents who drive a qualifying vehicle may pick up a free steering wheel lock at one of OPPD’s lock distribution events.

The first lock distribution event will be held on Saturday, August 5 at Sanders Justice Center, 12400 Foster St., from 9 a.m. – noon with an additional event scheduled for Friday, August 11 at the Myron E. Scafe Building, 8500 Antioch Rd, from 5-8 p.m.

Locks will be provided to any current Overland Park resident who owns one of the vehicles listed below. The owner of the vehicle must be present to receive the lock but is not required to drive the qualifying vehicle to the event.
