Open-air Farmers’ Market to return in April

The Overland Park Farmers’ Market will reopen for the 2021 season on Saturday, April 17, as an essential food provider.

The City is proud to bring the open-air, distanced, walk-up market concept back to Matt Ross Community Center this spring.

Safe, popular market option

While the coronavirus pandemic prompted many changes in market operations in 2020, the market in the Matt Ross Community Center parking lots was a safe, popular and successful option that provided shoppers access to fresh, local food and vendors a venue to sell their products.

“2020 confirmed the primary focus of a farmers’ market is to give the community access to nutritious, farm fresh products and quality local goods,” said Recreation Supervisor Kristina Stanley. “The pandemic proved that eating local foods has many benefits for the entire community, and we’re happy to be able to bring that back to Overland Park again in 2021, safely.”

Many favorite vendors from previous years will return for the 2021 market season along with new farm vendors and food and beverage offerings.

Public health best practices continue

Vendors will be required to set up booths to promote social distancing, and masks will be required where social distancing is not possible, per the State of Kansas mask order.

The Market will not host entertainment or events at Matt Ross Community Center, keeping public health a priority.

Wednesday markets at Matt Ross Community Center too

The Overland Park Farmers’ Market will operate weekly on Saturday beginning at 7:30 a.m. on April 17.

Wednesday markets will begin at 7:30 a.m. on June 2. City staff will continue to evaluate the public health situation and the possibility to return to the Farmers’ Market pavilion for the fall.
