Find exciting events and public meetings scheduled throughout the month to help you stay informed and inspired below.

Art at the Center: Chico Sierra Exhibit – Daily

Visual artist Chico Sierra creates bold, thought-provoking work that blends cultural history, humanism and social justice. Through his art, he encourages viewers to take a fresh look at identity, class and the hidden messages woven into visual language. This exhibition highlights an artist whose work is grounded in storytelling, learning and meaningful connections with the community. You can view this exhibit Jan. 19-Feb. 22, any time Tomahawk Ridge Community Center is open.

Botanical Illustration Panel Exhibition – Daily

This exhibition explores the rich tradition of botanical illustration—meticulously detailed plant studies created over 500 years ago for both medicinal knowledge and visual delight. Admire the craftsmanship of vividly painted plants meant not only to inform but also to inspire wonder. You can view this exhibit now through October 31.

Sunday, February 1

Night at the Arboretum – 5 p.m.

Visit the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens in a new light – darkness! Stargaze through giant telescopes, enjoy family-friendly activities and uncover the secrets of nocturnal critters and constellations, all included with regular admission. Glow hikes at 5 and 6:30 p.m. are included with admission. We’ll provide glowing accessories to light up your night, or bring your own! Admission is free with regular Arboretum entry.

Monday, February 2

Neighborhood Executive Committee Officers Board – 5:30 p.m.

The Neighborhood Executive Committee develops and monitors the progress of the neighborhood programs.

Committee of the Whole – 6:30 p.m.

The Committee of the Whole meets on an as-needed basis at City Hall in Conference Room 1.

City Council – 7:30 p.m.

Mayor and Council meetings are held on the first and third Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall in the council chamber.

Tuesday, February 3

Discovery Day at the Arboretum – 9 a.m.-noon

Each month, a new make-and-take project unfolds on Discovery Day at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. Crafting supplies are included, and the projects are available on a first-come, first-served basis to the first 100 participants. The first Tuesday of the month also happens to be Free Admission Day at the Arboretum, so entry into the gardens and this project are all free! The theme for February is “Paint and Art Show.”

Wednesday, February 4

Site Plan Review Committee – 11:45 a.m.

The Site Plan Review Committee makes recommendations to the Planning Commission on matters relating to site planning and architectural details of development proposals. Items may be recommended for committee review by the City Council, the Planning Commission or City staff. The Site Plan Review Committee meets at City Hall. 

Community Development Committee – 7 p.m.

Community Development Committee meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month at City Hall in Conference Room 1.

Thursday, February 5

Legacy of Greenery Committee – 6:30 p.m.

The Legacy of Greenery Committee develops strategies to increase, preserve and enhance the city’s tree canopy by promoting, planting and maintaining trees and shrubs in the city. The Legacy of Greenery Committee meets at City Hall on the first Thursday of every month.

Saturday, February 7

Cottonwood Tales – 10 a.m.

Come join O.P. the Bookworm, Miss Laurel and all your friends for Cottonwood Tales story time at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens! Enjoy interactive, nature-themed stories, fingerplays and musical activities on the first Saturday of every month.

Watercolor Workshop: Romantic Florals – 1 p.m.

Join local artist Sarah Ruth Frey at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens watercolor workshop! Learn to sketch and paint in this guided workshop. All materials are provided, along with light refreshments. This workshop is for ages 12 and up.

Monday, February 9

Ordinance Review Committee – 11:45 a.m.

The Ordinance Review Committee reviews ordinance amendment proposals with staff prior to consideration by the full commission. Ordinance amendments may be proposed by the City Council, the Planning Commission or City staff. 

Planning Commission – 1:30 p.m.

The Planning Commission considers all applications for final development plans and plats, holds public hearings and makes recommendations for final action to the Governing Body for rezoning, special use permits and preliminary development plans. It also prepares the Comprehensive Plan and reviews the Capital Improvements Program. Planning Commission meetings are held the second Monday of every month at City Hall in the Council Chamber.

Tuesday, February 10

Board of Zoning Appeals – 7 p.m.

The Board of Zoning Appeals considers requests for relief from the requirements of the zoning ordinance and meets monthly, generally on the second Tuesday. The Board of Zoning Appeals meets at City Hall.

Wednesday, February 11

Site Plan Review Committee – 11:45 a.m.

The Site Plan Review Committee makes recommendations to the Planning Commission on matters relating to site planning and architectural details of development proposals. Items may be recommended for committee review by the City Council, the Planning Commission or City staff. The Site Plan Review Committee meets at City Hall. 

69Express Public Meeting – 5-7 p.m.

At this open house at Tomahawk Ridge Community Center, 69Express project team members will answer questions about the project opening in the first quarter of 2026, how to use the express lanes and how to get a KTAG.

Public Safety Committee – 7 p.m.

Public Safety Committee meetings are held every second Wednesday of every month at City Hall in Conference Room 1.

Thursday, February 12

Nature Storytime – 10:30 a.m.

Immerse yourself in the beauty of the outdoors with Nature Storytime at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, presented by Stepping Stones KC. Join us for a delightful blend of music, movement, and adventure as we explore the wonders of nature. These gatherings are designed for young nature lovers, ages 1-6. Registration and caregiver presence is required.

Galentine’s Day in Downtown OP – 5 p.m.

Enjoy a fun night out with your besties, hosted at Strang Reserve in Downtown Overland Park! Tickets must be purchased in advance on the Downtown Overland Park website. Gather your galentines and create your own mini flower bouquet, shop exclusive deals at pop-up shops, strike a post in the photobooth station and enjoy candy and a live DJ from 5-8 p.m.

Environmental Advisory Council – 6 p.m.

The Environmental Advisory Council studies environmental issues while supporting and promoting new and existing programs, as well as developing educational initiatives that benefit individuals and businesses in our community regarding environmental concerns. This council meets at City Hall on the second Thursday at 6 p.m.

Saturday, February 14

Pressed Flower Workshop – 10 a.m.

This workshop at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens focuses on fun while learning a new skill. Learn all about how to press flowers and style them for special art pieces. Your registration reserves your workshop spot, gourmet cookies made by local artist Dough Best Bakery and a beverage.

Monday, February 16

Overland Park Development Corporation – 5:30 p.m.

The Overland Park Development Corporation meets quarterly to oversee the design, construction, operating and financing of the city’s convention center hotel.

Committee of the Whole – 6:15 p.m.

The Committee of the Whole meets on an as-needed basis at City Hall in Conference Room 1.

Overland Park Orchestra – 6 p.m.

Experience a heartfelt performance by the Overland Park Orchestra, featuring the Youth Soloist Competition winner and the beautiful sounds of Brahms’ Symphony No. 3 at Matt Ross Community Center. Brahms’ Third Symphony is a masterpiece, celebrated for distilling expansive Romantic ideals into a compact and unified structure.

Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee – 6:30 p.m.

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Council advises and makes recommendations to the Governing Body and staff on residential parks and recreational needs and wants. It meets the last Tuesday of every month at City Hall.

Wednesday, February 25

Site Plan Review Committee – 11:45 a.m.

The Site Plan Review Committee makes recommendations to the Planning Commission on matters relating to site planning and architectural details of development proposals. Items may be recommended for committee review by the City Council, the Planning Commission or City staff. The Site Plan Review Committee meets at City Hall. 

Public Works Committee – 7 p.m.

Public Works Committee business generally includes streets and highways, public works facilities, traffic signals and signs, infrastructure planning, right of way management, sidewalks and bikeways, public transportation, stormwater management and traffic management systems. Public Works Committee meetings are held every fourth Wednesday of every month at City Hall in Conference Room 1.
