Landscape awards highlight excellence in design, preservation

Eight local businesses are the 2022 recipients of the Overland Park Legacy of Greenery Committee landscape excellence awards.

The committee’s annual award recognizes community organizations for their landscaping based on design, continued maintenance and preservation of existing landscape features.

New winners this year include:

  • The Colonial Apartments – 7201-7221 W. 78th Street
  • Dairy Queen – 7580 W. 151st Street
  • Lemongrass Thai Cuisine – 7316 W. 80th Street
  • Life Church – 9800 W. 135th Street

Each year, the Legacy of Greenery committee highlights organizations in the community for landscaping based on design, continued maintenance and preservation of existing landscape features.

The committee also recognized “continued excellence” winners. This year, this award featured 2013 winners that have continued to provide beautiful surroundings since they were initially recognized in 2013.

2022 continued landscape excellence winners include:

  • Cherokee South Shopping Center – 8701 W. 95th Street
  • Compass Corporate Centre – 11225 College Boulevard
  • Edwin Watts Golf – 6824 W. 119th Street
  • KU Cancer Center – 12200 W. 110th Street

“The business community, and commercial development as well as churches and schools impact the City’s greenspace on a large scale,” said City Forester Bailey Patterson. “The committee feels it is important to recognize efforts that have made landscaping a high priority for the long term benefit and beautification of our city.”

This is the 34th year that the Legacy of Greenery Committee has presented landscape excellence awards.

The Legacy of Greenery Committee accepts nominations are throughout the year from the general public and reviews nominations annually.
