City to kick off recruitment process for next police chief

The City is hiring its next police chief.

The City will hire an executive recruitment firm to conduct a nationwide search for a chief and engage the community and officers regarding their priorities for a Police Department leader.

A committee of community representatives will select the contractor to do this work.

The selected contractor will be responsible for creating a talent profile for the position based on this feedback and for recruiting candidates.

Under Overland Park’s Mayor-Council-City Manager form of government, the City Manager hires all staff.

“I look forward to celebrating the appointment of our new Chief of Police,” said City Manager Lori Curtis Luther. “Together, we will continue to uphold the highest standards of service, trust, and professionalism.”

The City expects a police chief to begin as early as this summer.
