City to host town hall events for upcoming special election

The City of Overland Park will host three town hall events for residents interested in learning more about the upcoming OP Moves sales tax election. If approved by voters, the initiative would raise the City’s dedicated sales tax from one-eighths (0.125 percent) cent to three-eighths (0.375 percent) cent.

Revenue from the increase will allow the City to address the growing needs of the City’s aging infrastructure, pursue long term solutions to key traffic safety problems, and ensure the City can financially support environmentally responsible methods of infrastructure improvement.

Join us at an upcoming town hall meeting to learn more about this important election.

In-person Town Halls

The first in-person town hall will be held on Thursday, June 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Johnson County Library, Blue Valley branch, 9000 W. 151st Street. The second will be on Tuesday, June 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Matt Ross Community Center, 8101 Marty.

At each in-person town hall, Overland Park City Manager Lori Curtis Luther will present information about the sales tax election and its potential impact on City infrastructure. Following the presentation, City staff will be stationed around the room to answer questions about financing, engineering and Infrastructure Advisory Group recommendations.

These interactive town hall events are intended to foster productive discussion of how the OP Moves sales tax initiative would shape the City’s evolving transportation infrastructure.

Telephone Town Hall

In addition to two in-person town halls, the City will hold a virtual town hall on Thursday, June 8 at 6 p.m. Attendees will participate by dialing into a conference line using either their cell or landline phones. Residents will have the opportunity to pose questions about the OP Moves sales tax election to a panel of subject matter experts.

Dial-in information for the virtual event will be provided to residents via call or text one week prior to the event.
