The Overland Park Fire and Police Departments are rolling out the red carpet for a special group of community members at Friends of First Responders Day on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 1-3 p.m. at the Overland Park Fire Training Center, 12401 Hemlock St.
This event provides children with disabilities and their families with a safe and supportive environment to meet first responders, explore equipment and help children and their loved ones feel more comfortable and familiar with emergency personnel.
What to Expect
- Watch powerful flames shoot 30 feet into the air during a thrilling propane fire demonstration.
- Witness skilled firefighters rappel down the side of the training tower.
- Ride in an authentic fire truck or aerial ladder.
- Assist a firefighter in operating a real fire hose!
To keep the experience safe and engaging, attendance is limited to families of children with developmental disabilities. Friends of First Responders Day is about more than demonstrations—it’s about connection, confidence and community! Learn more at opkansas.org/FriendsofFirstRespondersDay.
