Survivors of sexual assault may stay silent out of fear—fear of not being believed, fear of retaliation or fear of judgment. Others may feel isolated, unsupported or unsure of where to turn. We want to help change that. If you’re 13 or older and were assaulted in Overland Park, there’s a new path to justice.
Seek Then Speak is a safe, online tool that helps survivors of sexual assault explore their options, connect with local resources and start the process of reporting at their own pace. It can be accessed anytime and offers privacy and flexibility.
Seek provides options for obtaining medical care, exploring support services and making a police report. When you’re ready to move forward with a police report, Speak allows you to generate a report that can be submitted to law enforcement. No data is stored online—responses are provided in a downloadable PDF that can be saved, printed or emailed.
If you choose to share your report with the Overland Park Police Department, you may email it to the Victim Services Unit at [email protected]. OPPD will review the information and may begin an official investigation.
Once submitted to OPPD, the report becomes a police record and may be accessible during any legal proceedings. Please call the Victim Services Unit for any questions or assistance throughout the process.
We hope this tool empowers survivors to come forward when they’re ready and that documenting these traumatic experiences leads to stronger cases and better outcomes in our justice system.
