OP to hear resident feedback on trash, recycling and more

The City of Overland Park is evaluating the state of trash and recycling services for its residents.

The Comprehensive Solid Waste Study will compare existing systems and ordinances with alternative options for both residential and multi-family properties to identify strategies to improve efficiency, reduce costs for residents and support environmental sustainability.

Early research into this topic suggested that there may be inequities among residents and neighborhoods regarding levels of service and costs associated with trash and recycling removal. This, in combination with resident outreach, prompted the City to further study the issue.

Now, the City invites community members to share their thoughts on their trash, recycling, yard waste and composting services.

Residents can participate via an in-person open house, a virtual open house, and an online survey.

Open houses will present preliminary information, and City staff and consultants will be available to answer questions and hear input. The survey is available online for all residents of the City to participate and share feedback.

Residents can attend either open house to review study details, ask questions and provide feedback on possible service changes.

The feedback residents share at these meetings and in the survey will guide decisions to improve service options and support long-term waste management goals.
