November in Overland Park brings cozy vibes, community spirit and plenty to do! From festive markets and family fun to seasonal celebrations and local favorites, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this month. So, grab your calendar and make the most of November’s lineup of local events.
Drop off your unpainted, undecorated pumpkins and gourds Nov. 1–25 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the east parking lot of the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. They’ll be turned into nutrient-rich compost and kept out of the landfill.
Spend Saturday mornings browsing aisles of fresh produce, meats, cheeses and specialty products at the Overland Park Farmers’ Market. The Farmers’ Market is open from 8 a.m. to noon through Nov. 22. The 2025 market season operates at Matt Ross Community Center, 8101 Marty Street, to allow for the construction of the Clock Tower Landing.
Experience the creativity and talent of the next generation of artists at the Johnson County Community College Fine Arts and Design Student Exhibition! This exhibit is a fantastic opportunity to engage with the vibrant art community and support emerging artists. You can view this exhibit now through Nov. 9, any time Tomahawk Ridge Community Center is open. The Future of Art Exhibit, featuring the artwork of high school students, opens Nov. 17.
LongHouse Community Art Gallery – Daily
Experience the imagination and talent of Wolf Springs Elementary’s fifth-grade students as they showcase their paper relief sculptures in this special art exhibit at the LongHouse Community Art Gallery. Each piece reflects the creativity and curiosity that make young artists so inspiring. The art show is free to attend, Nov. 5 through Dec. 31. Admission is required to enter the gardens.
Holiday Lights on Farmstead Lane
Experience the enchantment of the season at Holiday Lights on Farmstead Lane daily from 5-10 p.m. Nov. 27-Dec. 31. Bring some cocoa, cookies and blankets as you view the lights and hear the music from the warmth of your car in the Farmstead’s parking lot. This event is free, and the display is at the main entrance of Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead.
Monday, November 3
Overland Park Orchestra Concert – 3 p.m.
The Overland Park Orchestra takes the stage Sunday, Nov. 2 at 3 p.m. at Matt Ross Community Center for Sibelius’ Ethereal 3rd and Peter and the Wolf. Enjoy Saint-Saëns’ spooky Danse Macabre, where the violin and xylophone bring skeletons to life; Prokofiev’s playful Peter and the Wolf, where each character is introduced by a different instrument; and Sibelius’ soaring Symphony No. 3, filled with sweeping strings and bold brass. Free admission, plenty of magic.

Tuesday, November 4
Discovery Day at the Arboretum – 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Craft time awaits on the first Tuesday of the month at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. Each month, a new make-and-take project unfolds on Discovery Day. Crafting supplies are included, and the projects are available on a first-come, first-served basis to the first 100 participants. The theme for November is “Spectroscope.”
Wednesday, November 5
Giggle Time Children’s Program – 10 a.m.
Join us for a delightful children’s program on the first Wednesday of the month. From music and stories to puppet shows, Giggle Time features new and exciting entertainers. Come and join in the laughter and joy at this free event at Tomahawk Ridge Community Center!
Night at the Arboretum – 5 p.m.
Come roam the trails with your flashlight, look at the stars after dark at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. Glow hikes at 5 and 6:30 p.m. are included with admission. We’ll provide glowing accessories to light up your night, or bring your own! Admission is free with regular Arboretum entry.
Community Development Committee – 7 p.m.
Community Development Committee meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month at City Hall in Conference Room 1.
Thursday, November 6
Veterans Day Celebration – 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Please join us for a free event honoring veterans around Overland Park at the Black & Veatch campus. Guests can see, learn about and tour helicopters and military equipment and veteran-friendly support organizations will share information for veterans, families and others. The Overland Park Police Department and Fire Department will also be on hand to visit with residents and share information about their essential roles in the community.
Legacy of Greenery Committee – 6:30 p.m.
The Legacy of Greenery Committee develops strategies to increase, preserve and enhance the city’s tree canopy by promoting, planting and maintaining trees and shrubs in the city. The Legacy of Greenery Committee meets at City Hall on the first Thursday of every month.
Saturday, November 8
Handmade Holiday Watercolor Workshop – 1 p.m.
Join local artist Sarah Ruth Frey for a special holiday workshop at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens! Learn seasonal watercolor designs to display in brass floating frame ornaments, including poinsettias, holly leaves and mistletoe. No experience necessary. All materials are provided, along with light refreshments. The workshop will be held in the Environmental Education Center.
Sunday, November 9
Introduction to Natural Dyes – 1 p.m.
Learn how to create natural dyes using plants you can grow at home in this hands-on workshop with Luthvarian Fiber Arts artist Meagan Condon. You’ll dye your own skein of yarn using plants from the Arboretum’s gardens and gain the skills to continue experimenting with natural dyes from your own backyard. Wear clothing that can get a little messy! This class is open to ages 12 and up.

Planning Commission – 1:30 p.m.
The Planning Commission considers all applications for final development plans and plats, holds public hearings and makes recommendations for final action to the Governing Body for rezoning, special use permits and preliminary development plans. It also prepares the Comprehensive Plan and reviews the Capital Improvements Program. Planning Commission meetings are held the second Monday of every month at City Hall in the Council Chamber.

Neighborhood Executive Committee – 6 p.m.
The Neighborhood Executive Committee develops and monitors the progress of the neighborhood programs.
Board of Zoning Appeals – 7 p.m.
The Board of Zoning Appeals considers requests for relief from the zoning ordinance’s requirements and meets monthly, typically on the second Tuesday. The Board of Zoning Appeals meets at City Hall.

Arboretum New Volunteer Orientation – 10 a.m.
This is for new volunteers wishing to serve on a regular basis. We will discuss all volunteer opportunities, collect the required paperwork and introduce you to the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens!

Public Works Committee business generally includes streets and highways, public works facilities, traffic signals and signs, infrastructure planning, right of way management, sidewalks and bikeways, public transportation, stormwater management and traffic management systems. Public Works Committee meetings are held every fourth Wednesday of every month at City Hall in Conference Room 1.

Solid Waste Study Open House – 5-7 p.m.
Overland Park is conducting a comprehensive study of solid waste to evaluate residential and multi-family waste management practices. The study will compare our current systems and ordinances with alternative models and recommend ways to improve efficiency, reduce costs for residents and support environmental sustainability. You are invited to attend an open house on the solid waste study, with City staff and consultants present to answer questions and present preliminary information in an open house style format at Matt Ross Community Center. If you’re unable to make it to the open house, join us for a virtual meeting on Thursday, November 20.

Enjoy food trucks and live music that will set the perfect holiday mood. The holiday tree will be lit at 6 p.m., marking the official start of the season in a dazzling display of lights and cheer. Meet Santa Claus, the Grinch and Disney Princesses.
Race into the holiday season with sparkle and cheer at the Holiday Luminary 5K at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens! Be among the first to experience the Arboretum’s breathtaking holiday light display before it opens to the public. The race begins and ends near LongHouse Visitor Center, with festive fun all along the way — think carolers, music, cookies and more holiday spirit than you can shake a candy cane at. Cross the finish line and celebrate with even more lights, laughter and seasonal festivities.

Enjoy the beauty of the Luminary Walk electric displays at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, without the candlelit woods, Santa, musicians, cider, trains or crowds. Electric Glow limits capacity, making the event ideal for wandering through the gardens in a more relaxed atmosphere.
