Mayor’s Office

The mayor presides over all City Council meetings and signs all ordinances, resolutions, contracts and agreements authorized by the Governing Body.

The mayor appoints members to volunteer boards and commissions, meets with residents, business leaders, elected officials, students, Scouts and City staff, and works to promote the city’s success. The mayor also participates in ceremonies such as dedications, grand openings, ribbon cuttings and welcomes groups meeting in the city.

2025 State of the City Address

Mayor Curt Skoog delivered his State of the City address on February 4, 2025 at Johnson County Community College.

In his speech, Mayor Skoog highlighted the City’s achievements over the past year and shared his vision for Overland Park’s future.

Proclamation Requests

The Mayor’s office issues proclamations for nonprofit organizations with citywide, regional or statewide interest, as a courtesy.

Proclamations recognize and are issued for a specific day, week or month. These public service documents are strictly honorary and are not legally binding.

Proclamation requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Not all requests are accepted.

Proclamations will not be issued to endorse or promote a private, for-profit business that competes with similar for-profit businesses, or to endorse or promote a partisan political position or candidate.

Submit a Request

Submit proclamation requests four to six weeks before the requested date, and include a draft of the proclamation. Draft proclamation language may be edited or rewritten at the discretion of the Mayor’s office.

Include the requester’s contact information, including a mailing address and telephone number.
