Following a major disaster, first responders may not be able to meet the demand for fire and medical services.
Overland Park’s emergency management division provides Community Emergency Response Team training to give neighbors the ability to help one another and meet immediate lifesaving and life-sustaining needs.
CERT graduates then have the option to become a CERT member and volunteer in several capacities.
Students will learn:
Classroom instruction is followed by practical exercises and evaluation. Training concludes with a disaster simulation.
Overland Park Emergency Management will offer free Community Emergency Response Team training on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to noon, September 2-23. Classes meet at the Overland Park Fire Training Center. The seven-unit course requires full attendance to graduate. Participants must be 18 or older.

City staff deliver CERT training in weekly evening sessions over a seven-week-long period. Because of the sequential and cumulative nature of the training, registration is only available for the entire program, not for individual classes.
