Police Department volunteers provide administrative support to officers within the detective and investigations divisions.
Detectives volunteers help produce several weekly crime bulletins and crime mapping applications within the Crime Analysis Unit. Volunteers are asked to work at least one four-hour block of time per week, Monday through Friday; hours can vary to suit the needs of the volunteer and the division.
Investigations volunteers help prepare case material for officers; contact victims or others by telephone for information that is entered into police databases; and contact Pawn Shops and other police departments, etc., for updates or clarification. Hours vary, between 8 a.m. and noon, Monday through Friday.
Volunteers must pass background and polygraph tests and should be:
- Familiar with personal computers; basic software, such as Microsoft Office Suite; and basic office equipment - fax, copier, adding machine, etc.
- Able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Able to read and transmit detailed information accurately.
