Residents coming together, watching out for one another, sharing information and reporting suspicious activity to the police department is the goal of the Neighborhood Watch Program.
Neighborhoods that work together with the police department receive regular neighborhood watch updates, informing them of criminal activity throughout the city.
Often, neighborhoods and businesses request extra patrol by the police department when criminal activity occurs in their community. Because of the size of the city, residents must understand the police department's resources are limited. Also, the request of extra patrol by the police department may be ineffective and offer only a slight reprieve from criminal problems.
Residents can request an officer attend their neighborhood meeting to discuss the importance of the Neighborhood Watch Program. Topics of discussion may include: residential security, alarms, speeding in the neighborhood and any other issues pertinent to the neighborhood.
