Trade the gas pedal for bike pedals during National Bike to Work Week

Ready, set, pedal! Put down your car keys and change up your commute May 15-19 for National Bike to Work Week.

With more than 120 miles of bike lanes and dozens of miles of bike trails across the City, Overland Park’s bicycling infrastructure offers residents an opportunity to commute to work safely on two wheels.

Make sure to stop by the City’s bicycle breakfast stops. City staff will be handing out breakfast bars, fruit, coffee and juice from 6:30-8 a.m. at different locations throughout the week.

  • Monday, May 15 – 135th & Lamar Avenue (Near REI)
  • Tuesday, May 16 – 119th & Lowell Avenue (Tomahawk Ridge Community Center)
  • Wednesday, May 17 – 91st & Metcalf Avenue
  • Thursday, May 18 – 81st & Marty Street (Matt Ross Community Center)
  • Friday, May 19 – 85th & Santa Fe Drive (City Hall)

If you don’t own a bike, Ride KC has a bikeshare program with locations throughout Johnson County, and Bird scooters and bikes are available to rent in Overland Park. Rent an e-bike for an extra boost, or stick with a traditional bike for a classic experience.

The League of American Bicyclists established National Bike Month in 1956 to celebrate and encourage bicycling for recreation and transportation. Learn more about National Bike Month and Overland Park bike trails, lanes and opportunities for adventure at opkansas.org.
