Statement from Mayor Carl Gerlach on the passing of Former Council Member Terry Goodman

It is with great sadness we share news regarding the passing of former Overland Park Council Member Terry Goodman, who passed away on Sunday.

Goodman served the community and city of Overland Park for more 20 years, beginning with the Overland Park Planning Commission in the 1990s. He was elected to represent Ward 4 in April 2001, and again in 2005, 2009 and 2013.

As a member of the Planning Commission, Goodman served on a number of committees that would create the foundation for much of Overland Park’s development in the early 2000s.

“Terry was a champion of business in our community. His passionate support of commerce helped generate business for Overland Park during a difficult economic time,” said Mayor Carl Gerlach. “Further, he was committed to making decisions that benefited the entire city.”

Goodman also served as Council President, Chair of the Finance, Administration and Economic Development Committee, and as a member of the Community Development and Public Safety Committees.

“We have heard from others about Terry’s indelible impact upon Overland Park. We sincerely express our condolences to the Goodman family. Please know the Overland Park you see today is because of his love of this community. For that, we are truly appreciative of his service,” Gerlach said.

Goodman leaves behind a wife, Frances; two adult daughters, Kristi Goodman and Amy Goodman-Long; and a grandson, Tyler Long.
