OPFD celebrates fire prevention week with a virtual open house

The Overland Park Fire Department is getting creative in the pandemic.

Typically, the Fire Department invites the community to an open house during National Fire Prevention Week in order to educate residents about how to keep their families, friends and property safe.

This year, the department presents a virtual open house.

Visit the open house webpage to see a live tour of a fire station, take fire safety quizzes, enter to win a prize basket and more.

You can also watch videos on fire safety topics, including:

  • Smoke alarm basics
  • Home escape planning
  • Getting out safely in a cooking fire
  • Smoking safety
  • Carbon monoxide safety

There is also content just for kids, including videos showing everything inside a fire truck and how firefighters get dressed for emergencies, and coloring sheets.
