Mayor encourages census responses in Overland Park

Mayor Carl Gerlach is encouraging you to help boost Overland Park’s 2020 census self-response rate.

More than 73 percent of Overland Park has filled out the census, but responses are still short of the city’s 2010 census response rate.

The census provides leaders with an understanding of who lives in the community and provides direction to allocate funding for important programs and services, including:

  • Public safety, including police and fire
  • Schools
  • Libraries
  • Health clinics and hospitals
  • Nutrition assistance
  • Programs for veterans, and more.

You may have received a 2020 census form in the mail. You can fill out the paper form or submit the census via phone or online.

In July and August, census workers may visit homes that haven’t responded to the 2020 census to help make sure everyone is counted.
