Park and Recreation Month Bucket List Challenge – July 1-31
It’s National Park and Recreation Month, and we hope you’re ready to celebrate! Check out all the fun on our July event calendar and enjoy everything Parks and Recreation has to offer. Want a little extra motivation? Complete our July Bucket List Challenge and win a prize! Print out the list, complete at least 10 activities (or the whole thing!), and turn in your finished sheet between July 28–August 11 at Matt Ross Community Center or Tomahawk Ridge Community Center to receive a prize. One entry and one prize per person.
Spend Saturday mornings browsing aisles of fresh produce, meats, cheeses and specialty products at the Overland Park Farmers’ Market. The Farmers’ Market operates from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The 2025 market season will take place at Matt Ross Community Center, 8101 Marty Street, to allow for the construction of the Clock Tower Landing.

Expressive Endeavors: An Employee Art Show – Daily
With more than 1,000 staff members at the City of Overland Park, there are some incredible artistic talents! We’re excited to showcase the masterpieces of City staff at our first Employee Art Show, held at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Garden’s LongHouse Community Gallery. The art show is free to attend now through Aug. 29. Admission is required to enter the gardens.

Sensory-Friendly Early Admission at the Farmstead – 8 a.m.
Experience Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead in a calm and welcoming environment during Sensory-Friendly Early Admission Days. Designed for individuals with sensory sensitivities and their families, this event offers a supportive space to explore the farmstead with reduced crowds and minimal background noise. At 9 a.m., the farmstead opens to the general public, but attendees are welcome to stay for the remainder of the day until closing at 5 p.m. Tickets must be purchased online in advance due to limited occupancy.
Discovery Day at the Arboretum – 9 a.m.-noon
Craft time awaits on the first Tuesday of the month at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. Little explorers are in for a treat as they immerse themselves in the enchanting world of nature and creativity. Each month, a new make-and-take project unfolds on Discovery Day. Crafting supplies are included, and the projects are available on a first-come, first-served basis to the first 100 participants. The first Tuesday of the month also happens to be Free Admission Day at the Arboretum, so entry into the gardens and this project are all free! The theme for July is “Tic Tac Toe Bags.”
Property Tax Rebate Program Support Session – 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
The City’s property tax rebate pilot program will provide property tax relief to residents who need it most. The property tax rebate pilot program will offer up to 75% of City property taxes back to eligible residents. Staff from the City’s administrative partner for this program, Community Capital Fund, will be available during a support session on July 1 from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. via appointment virtually. Storytime in the Garden – 10:30 a.m.
Dig into stories and nature at Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead! Every Tuesday from June 24–August 5, the Johnson County K-State Master Gardeners bring Storytime in the Garden to life. Just follow the purple umbrella to find them sharing garden-themed tales and fun crafts. All ages are welcome, with adult supervision required for the little ones. Regular admission applies.
Public Information Meeting: 175th Street, 179th Street to Antioch Road Improvements – 5:30-7 p.m.
You are invited to attend an informational meeting to discuss the 175th Street Road Improvements project. The City will reconstruct 175th Street from 179th Street to Antioch Road to an improved two-lane thoroughfare, including a new roundabout at 175th and 179th Street. The project includes a sidewalk, multi-use trail, bike lane, street lighting, curb and gutter and storm sewers. This open house is an opportunity to ask questions about the project, including the concept plan and details.

Summer STEM Fun: Scat and Tracks – 10 a.m.
Step into the wild world of Kansas woodlands and become a nature detective! In this class, we’ll embark on a scavenger hunt to uncover the secrets left behind by our furry neighbors. We’ll learn to identify animal tracks pressed into the forest floor, deciphering who’s been prowling around. And yes, we’ll get down and dirty with scat – animal poop – discovering what critters have been munching on. Get ready for a hands-on, slightly smelly, but fascinating adventure into the hidden lives of Kansas wildlife!

Celebrating the Fourth at the Farmstead – 9 a.m.-noon
Celebrate Independence Day with fun, games and a whole lot of red, white and blue! Kick off your Fourth of July with old-fashioned games, patriotic lessons and flag etiquette in the Schoolhouse, a classic cake walk and chalk the walk. The celebration wraps up at noon, and the Farmstead closes at 2 p.m. This event is included with regular admission. Come early, stay festive and celebrate the Fourth of July with us.
Star Spangled Spectacular – 5-10:30 p.m.
Enjoy an evening of concerts, food and fireworks at Star Spangled Spectacular at Corporate Woods Founders’ Park on July 4, 2025. Visitors can enter Corporate Woods Founders’ Park at any time on Independence Day. Parking is available in any open Corporate Woods parking lot. People with disabilities and their families can enjoy the pool before it opens to the public during Adaptive Splash on select summer Saturdays at Tomahawk Ridge Aquatic Center. Lifeguards are on duty and staff will be in the water to assist with swimmers’ needs and to provide support. Admission to Adaptive Splash is $8. One caretaker is admitted with each swimmer, free of charge. Pool memberships include admission to Adaptive Splash events.

Public Information Meeting: College Boulevard Bridge Over Indian Creek Open House – 5:30-7:30 p.m.
You are invited to attend an informational meeting to discuss the College Bridge over Indian Creek project, which will occur in the Corporate Woods and Shannon Valley Estates neighborhoods in 2025. This project consists of the reconstruction of the College Boulevard bridge over Indian Creek. The third public information meeting will address questions and/or concerns from property owners adjacent to the proposed improvements.
Neighborhood Executive Committee – 6 p.m.
The Neighborhood Executive Committee develops and monitors the progress of the neighborhood conservation program, which helps preserve and enhance neighborhoods by promoting community-building by supporting voluntary neighborhood groups and associations, providing a forum for communication between neighbors, residents and City Hall, developing community leadership and advocating for the needs of neighborhood organizations.
