Make the Most of July 4: Facility hours and fireworks guidelines

The Fourth of July is a time to celebrate our nation’s independence. As you make plans for the holiday, please be aware of City facility closures and modified hours on Friday, July 4, 2025:

Modified hours

Closed

While City offices are closed, residents can access information, services, pay fees or report issues using the City’s online platforms.

Fireworks

It is illegal to purchase, possess or discharge any fireworks in Overland Park. The following types of fireworks are prohibited:

  • Sparklers,
  • Firecrackers,
  • Torpedoes,
  • Skyrockets,
  • Roman candles.

This is not an exhaustive list. In general, if a device creates a visible or audible effect through combustion or detonation, it’s not allowed in Overland Park. City ordinance does permit the use of novelty items like snappers, snakes, toy pistols and canes with caps.

Violating the fireworks ordinance may result in a fine of up to $500.
