Make sure you’re counted, and make it a learning opportunity

Today is census day, the official beginning of the 2020 Census. The census determines how much federal money goes to local communities and local programs. For every household that doesn’t get counted, we lose $39,000 in federal funding over the next ten years.

You have probably received invitations in the mail to complete the census. If you haven’t done so yet, now is the time. You can respond over the phone, by mail, or online at census.gov.

This year, the census is making sure those who must be home due to the Coronavirus outbreak, can provide a teaching moment for the family.

You can tune in to a Facebook Live event about why getting counted matters, download a free census-themed e-book about counting, and take advantage of census-themed worksheets for students.
