Farmers’ Market to remain at Matt Ross Community Center through 2021 season

The Overland Park Farmers’ Market will continue to operate an open-air, distanced, walk-up market in the Downtown Overland Park district at Matt Ross Community Center for the remainder of the 2021 season.

The City made the decision to return the market to Downtown Overland Park during the height of the pandemic in 2020. The Matt Ross Community Center location allows shoppers and vendors to safely and comfortably distance while shopping. The expanded layout for market vendors is not possible under the Farmers’ Market Pavilion.

Operations at this location have been incredibly successful, bringing in more than 6,500 shoppers at most Saturday markets. Two different July weekends smashed market records, with more than 7,800 shoppers visiting Downtown Overland Park.

The decision to continue operations at Matt Ross Community Center will affect eight Saturday markets in October and November, when the market will operate from 8 a.m. to noon. The final Wednesday market of the year is scheduled for September 29. The City previously announced that it expected the market to remain at Matt Ross Community Center through September.

The Matt Ross Community Center location also allows staff to continue with existing pandemic operations and begin making plans for the upcoming 2022 farmers’ market season. City staff will continue to evaluate the public health situation.
