Downtown Overland Park to host local experts to share study findings

Downtown Overland Park and the City of Overland Park will host a panel of local development experts to share their analysis of new opportunities in the downtown area.

The Urban Land Institute – Kansas City Technical Assistance Panel has spent several weeks studying Downtown Overland Park, considering the following questions:

  • How best to connect the Metcalf Avenue corridor to Santa Fe Drive in the heart of Downtown Overland Park
  • Whether it would be viable to develop boutique hotel, grocery stores or additional multifamily housing in the area
  • What the financial implications for such uses would be, and potential funding sources to achieve such recommendations

The study focused on expanding on development opportunities downtown that support Vision Metcalf and the City’s development code.

“Downtown Overland Park has grown into a thriving hub of businesses and cultural activity,” said Overland Park Mayor Curt Skoog. “This study will help us create a more connected, vibrant downtown area that is accessible and welcoming to everyone.”

The panel will present its findings at a meeting this week.

All are welcome to learn more at the meeting, from 4:30-6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12 at Matt Ross Community Center, 8101 Marty.
