Celebrate National Volunteer Month by getting involved in Overland Park

Get involved and celebrate National Volunteer Month in your own backyard! The City of Overland Park is grateful for the many volunteers who donate their time to the success of countless events and programs.

There are a variety of volunteer opportunities available throughout the year:

Arboretum & Botanical Gardens

If you have a green thumb or a love for the great outdoors, volunteers at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens assist in a variety of roles. Opportunities include:

  • Gardening, weeding, planting, and general maintenance.
  • Greeting guests.
  • Guiding tours, and hosting field trips.
  • Assisting with seasonal activities and educational events.
  • Instruction of special interests topics, including photography, birdwatching, geocaching, model trains, art and more.

Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead

Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead volunteers interact with guests as well as animals, greeting visitors, providing animal care, landscaping and assisting with activities and special events. Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older.

Environmental Programs and Special Events

Environmental programs and events held throughout the year, including Recycling Extravaganza and Stream Clean, rely on volunteers to be successful. Volunteers can also get involved on their own time by cleaning up parks or planting native plants at home.
