The City Council has accepted the resignation of Ward 5 Councilmember John Skubal, creating a vacancy.

Skubal, who was elected to the Kansas Senate last November, and has a full-time job with Kaw Valley Engineering, submitted his resignation from the City Council prior to the April 3 meeting.

Per its policies, the City Council will vote on a replacement to fill the vacancy within 30 days.

Interested applicants must live in Ward 5 and meet the qualifications for filing for elected office in Overland Park.

Applications instructions can be found on the Notice of Vacancy.

The person appointed to the vacant Ward 5 position will serve until January, 2018.  On November 7, Ward 5 voters will select a candidate to complete the remainder of Skubal’s four-year term, which expires in January, 2020.
