A portion of Grant Street will be closed to traffic beginning Wednesday for about 45 days as part of a $3.6 million road reconstruction project.
Local utility companies have been busy relocating above and underground service lines to accommodate the nearly year-long project.
On Wednesday, Grant St. will be closed from 83rd Terr. south to 87th St., requiring the complete closure of the four-way stop intersection at 85th St. Parents and students who use 85h St. as a route to Shawnee Mission West High School need to plan an alternate route to avoid the road closure.
Access to Comanche Elementary School remains open through the end of the current school year.
Grant St. is being completely replaced with concrete pavement. Other new amenities include street curbs, storm drains, street lights, sidewalks and reconstruction lot at Sapling Grove Park.
The road closure schedule is dependent upon the weather.
