Overland Park, KS 66213
The Art at the Center Juried exhibition offers both professional and avid amateur artists a chance to have their work evaluated by a world class artist.
Guest Juror, Jean Cook, will announce award winners at this prestigious art event. Jean Cook is a native Kansan. She grew up on the family farm helping with harvests and caring for the family cows, sheep and horses. Her artwork is inspired by her real-life experiences showing horses, working cattle drives and traveling to unusual locations around the world. The results of these travels are a large body of research photos which are used regularly in her work. Her paintings reflect an emphasis on the use of color, light and shadow to create depth. She worked for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, MO for 34 years, 21 of those 34 years as an artist engraver. The skills learned as a sculpting artist can be seen in her work. Basically a self-taught artist, Jean has studied with many well known artists around the US and the Kansas City Art Institute.
