On Monday, Feb. 5, Overland Park City Council members, City staff, vendors, and the public will hear a consultant’s final recommendations to improve the Overland Park Farmers’ Market.
Since 2017, Overland Park has been working with consultant group, Market Ventures, to study possible options, from improving the current site to expanding or moving the Farmers’ Market.
The consultant team studied the Market via interviews, focus groups, market research, and public surveys to gather information to determine the best recommendations.
Market Ventures has recommended moving the Market to Santa Fe Commons Park. The consultant made this recommendation at two public meetings last November, to market vendors and the public. Other options include simply upgrading the current Market structure, creating a parking garage under the current Market location, and expanding the Market by adding a wing along Marty Street.
The consultant will present its final report and recommendation to City Council members during a Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday, Feb. 5 at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall.
This recommendation is not a final decision or action item. No public hearing is scheduled for this meeting. Public input opportunities will be available moving forward in the process.
The Farmers’ Market is a vital part of Downtown Overland Park and will remain there. No location beyond Downtown Overland Park was considered as part of the project, and any action taken will ensure the continued viability of the Market.
Please plan to attend Monday’s meeting to learn more about the findings. If you’re unable to attend, the presentation will be available online following the meeting.
