9/11 Memorial at Fire Training Center

From 6 p.m.- 8 p.m, the United States Honor Flag will be on display at the Overland Park 9/11 Memorial. This national treasure has been to over 3000 line of duty funerals since 9/11 for Police Officers, Firefighters and Military personnel. The Flag was also on the very last Space Shuttle Mission. Groups are welcome to see and take photos by the flag. The U.S. Honor Flag will also be on display at the Memorial, September 11 in the morning.

Beginning at sunset, Sunday, September 10, a solemn light tribute will be shining for this national time of mourning. This mimics the display that is held at ground zero in New York City with two light towers at the Memorial. In addition to adding to the solemnity of the memorial, the lights draw people who were previously unaware of the tribute.

The light display will conclude at sunrise, September 11. Shortly afterward, the Overland Park Police Department honor guard will lead a solemn ceremony in remembrance of the 9/11 attacks.
