Violations + Fines

Speeding Violations

All fines include $25 court costs, $1 of which goes to Kansas court costs, $1.50 of which goes to the Victim Rights Fund and $22.50 which is state-assessed.

Convictions for traveling six miles per hour or less over the speed limit in a posted zone of 30 or more, but less than 55 miles per hour, are non-moving violations. Convictions for traveling 10 miles per hour or less over the speed limit in a 55 mile per hour or greater zone also are non-moving violations.

For a moving violation in a school zone or construction zone, add $50.

Convictions of 25 mph or greater over the posted speed limit are fined at a rate of 10 times the total number of miles per hour over the speed limit. For example, a driver speeding 30 mph over the posted speed limit will be fined $300.

Add $50 to moving violation fines in school zones and construction zones.

Fine codes include:

  • B – A “B” next to the fine indicates a $2 court cost included, $0.50 of which goes to the Kansas court cost, $1.50 of which goes to the victim rights fund.
  • C – A “C” next to the fine indicates a $22 court cost included, $0.50 of which goes to the Kansas court cost, $1.50 of which goes to the victim rights fund. $20 is a state-assessed fee.
